Angola Air Charter issued the following announcement on June 4.

After thunderstorms off the coast of Cape Town delayed the docking of their cruise ship, a group of 80 Australian tourists found themselves stranded, having missed their scheduled flights to Victoria Falls. With a tour guide waiting in Zimbabwe and the group anxious not to miss any more of their adventure, the owner of the travel company called ACS to get the trip back on track.

SOLUTION

While an account manager in Johannesburg set about sourcing a suitable aircraft within easy reach of Cape Town to keep the positioning costs down, a colleague in Sydney was on hand to liaise with the travel company’s head office in Australia. Working with a nine-hour time difference, the pair were able to line up all the necessary permits and paperwork, and transfer payment to the airline to secure the booking – all in just three hours.

Thanks to a long-standing relationship with the operator, the South African account manager was even able to arrange a free bar on board. The group were delighted with their unexpected private flight and returned home with an extra tale to tell from their African escape.

THE FINER DETAILS

THE FINISHING TOUCHES: Working out of hours and with a nine-hour time difference, our teams in South Africa and Australia co-ordinated to find a solution, keeping the group leader in the loop throughout. To celebrate getting their trip back on track, the group enjoyed free drinks on board – a little surprise from our account manager in South Africa.
