Angola Cables recently issued the following announcement.
Angola Cables, a telecommunications multinational specializing in submarine cables, will offer its customers customized amounts of data capacity through Ciena's Geomesh Extreme Spectrum Sharing Capability. Angola Cables can reliably and securely deliver highly differentiated virtual fiber pairs - which are dedicated and up-to-date parts of the total optical spectrum - to end users through a shared physical fiber pair. Customers can access Angola Cables' spectrum sharing capacity through Cable Monet, already in operation between Boca Raton in Florida, São Paulo and Fortaleza in Brazil.
"With Ciena's advanced Spectrum Sharing capability, we can expand our global reach and offer differentiated virtual fiber pair products to our customers by providing greater flexibility and choice to better align with the growing market demand for underwater connectivity," he explains. António Nunes, CEO of Angola Cables.
"Innovative submarine cable operators like Angola Cables are looking at new ways to get the most out of their assets to continue offering differentiated services. At Ciena, our new vision called "Adaptive Network" guides the efforts of subsea network providers to help their customers with the growing capacity demands. By leveraging programmable infrastructure and software control for scale, auto configuration and optimization, an adaptive network ensures that undersea networks can truly adapt to changes in network environments and respond accordingly, "said Ian Clarke, Global Vice President, Subsea Systems of Ciena.
Main Facts:
Angola Cables is one of the leading providers of capacity for the West African coast and is also one of the service providers of the undersea cable, which forms an "Open Cable" system in which each consortium member can select the submarine line terminals for their fiber pairs, thus providing more flexibility and choice of technology to their customers.
Angola Cables customers can manage their own traffic and submarine line termination equipment without the risk of impact to other users sharing the common open cable system. The key benefit of Ciena's spectrum sharing feature is that it provides secure, cost-effective and reliable connectivity in the form of high spectrum sharing flexibility, which enables Angola Cables to offer virtual fiber pairs to its end customers.
Last year, Angola Cables selected Ciena's GeoMesh Extreme and Blue Planet solutions and services to support the launch of Cable Monet's services. The 10,556 km route currently provides more than 25 Tb / s of traffic on the Angola Cables network between the US and Latin America's main business center in São Paulo.
