WIPO: Angola At 61st WIPO General Assembly Session

World Intellectual Property Organisation issued the following announcement on September 21.

Angola is attending the 61st Session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) taking place in Geneva, Swiss Confederation, on 21-25 September.

Participants are expected to approve, among others issues, the external auditor's report on WIPO, the financial statements and lists of decisions adopted by the Programmes and Budget Committee, as well as the calls for extraordinary sessions for 2021.

The hybrid meeting (face-to-face and virtual) will have as the main focus the presentation of the report of the outgoing director-general, focusing on the challenges of the future.

Angola, as a member state of the WIPO Coordination Committee and Assembly of the Union of Paris, reinforces the need to implement policies, aimed at ensuring balance and geographical representativeness within the institution's Secretariat.

Under the technical assistance programme that WIPO has provided to member states, Angola is in the stage of benefiting from Technological Support (IPAS), aimed to ensure the modernisation of the country's Industrial Property Services System, adapting it to the standards and international criteria.

Created in 1967, WIPO is one of the 15 specialised agencies of the United Nations with the aim to encourage creative activity and promoting the protection of intellectual property worldwide.

It is also responsible for the transfer of technology related to industrial property in developing countries, in order to accelerate their cultural development.

With 191 member states, WIPO administers 26 international treaties and is headquartered in Geneva, Swiss Confederation.
